To mark the 200th anniversary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade,
a group of Y5 and Y6 pupils took part in an art exhibition at
All Souls Club House.
The children worked around the central theme of ‘Freedom’ and came up
with imagery that represented that idea.
Our Y5 pupils
produced individual works
in paint and pastels
Y6 worked as a collective and created an installation called ‘Released’. This featured a bird cage and a flock
of multi-coloured paper birds printed with words that described what being enslaved might be like.
Slavery was not an easy subject for the children to handle but everyone was extremely impressed with the maturity and sensitivity
of the work produced.
Congratulations to everyone who took part!
