During the spring term Year 4 have been learning the art of Djembe. This is a drum that originates from West Africa. We learnt many different techniques, beats and songs to go with our drumming. We showed off on new skills in front of the school in our class assembly for the term. We hope to be able to do more of this in the future!

| Year 5 2010 |
Year 5 have had a very busy term! We have been on a few trips and have had a very hard working Spring term. We had the opportunity to visit the National theatre to watch ‘Twelfth Night.’ In addition to this, we also had the opportunity to go and see an Orchestral Performance performed by the Orpheus Foundation. This was held at St. Paul’s Church in Covent Garden.
Also this term, the year 5 and 6 children had the chance to take a residential trip to Treginnis, (see here). Children who were not able to go on this trip, spent a day at the Kentish Town City Farm. As you can see from the photos, the children had an amazing time and even had the opportunity to get involved in the maintenance of the farm. They cleaned the stables, tidied the animal houses and even swept the farm grounds. Children enjoyed it so much, that they said they would be willing to clean a farm on a regular basis!

In History we have been studying Britain since the 1930’s. This has been linked to our English topics of biographies and other non fiction writing.
In maths we have been looking at number , shape and data problems and in Art we have been making pottery pieces based on the work of Clarence Cliff.
We have also been on many educational visits this year including our trip to the Imperial War Museum; while there we went to the Blitz Experience, this simulator made it feel like we were actually in 1941. We also went to the CLC to make podcasts for children in need.
We also went to the cenotaph with year 2 to see the sacrifice that others have made so we can live in freedom.
In September two children were chosen to work on a project at the children’s channel Nickelodeon. At the very end of the term Saskia was chosen to speak live on
Radio 2. |
